Modalities
CRYOTHERAPY
Cryotherapy uses low temperatures to decrease cell growth, inflammation, pain and spasms. At Precision Health Spine & Sports Clinic we use state-of-the-art equipment developed by NASA that combines compression with cold therapy to optimize injury treatment and post-operative recovery. We use either the Ice Man or Game Ready devices based on your particular needs.
ACTIVE RELEASE TECHNIQUE
Active Release Technique is a movement based massage technique that uses precisely directed tension in combination with very specific movements by the patient to improve a range of conditions related to muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Determining texture, tightness and movement of the area are key to the ART.
COLD LASER THERAPY
Cold Laser Therapy uses LED lights to reduce pain and inflammation and improve tissue repair. Low-level light is absorbed by tissue, which reacts to red or near infrared light. No vibration, heat or sound is generated. Cold Laser assists with the management, modulation and minimization of chronic inflammation that may be caused by a range of conditions. It is often used in treating sports injuries, arthritic joints as well as back & neck pain. Conditions that can be treated with Cold Laser Therapy include:
- Arthritis
- Headaches
- De Quervain's Syndrome
ACUPUNCTURE & DRY NEEDLING
Acupuncture was developed over 5000 years ago in China and Japan. Dry Needling uses fine, single-use needles to provide intra-muscular stimulation, relaxing overactive muscles. It is applied to myofascial trigger points in muscles to alleviate back, neck, elbow and many other types of pain, improve healing, reduce pain and restore normal tissue function. Conditions that can benefit from Dry Needling include:
- Myofascial dysfunction
- Piriformis Syndrome
- Whiplash
- Muscle injuries
- Sciatica
- Mechanical lower back pain
ORTHOTIC THERAPY/ORTHOTICS
Orthotics are externally applied devices which modify functional, structural and biomechanical problems of the skeletal and neuromuscular system through their application to the foot and ankle. They can be used in everyday situations, or specialist situations to optimize sporting performance. Generally, orthotics will take the form of shoes or shoe inserts or braces for the foot and ankle. Conditions that can benefit from ORTHOTIC THERAPY/ORTHOTICS include:
SHOCKWAVE THERAPY
Shockwave Therapy uses high energy sound-waves to treat a range of joint, tendon and muscle conditions in acute, subacute and chronic conditions. Shockwave Therapy promotes regeneration and assists with the reparative processes in bones, tendons and other soft tissue. It is similar to Ultrasound therapy, but differs in intensity. It has been shown to assist with a range of conditions that are often hard to treat with other methods. Conditions that can benefit from Shockwave Therapy include:
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Achilles Tendonitis
- Shoulder Calcific Tendonitis
- Lateral Epicondylitis
- Knee Osteoarthritis
- Jumper’s Knee
ULTRASOUND
Ultrasound uses ultra high frequency sound waves that cannot be heard by the human ear to stimulate the tissue below the skin. These sound waves are primarily absorbed by the tendons, ligaments, fascia and scar tissue and can accelerate healing, diminish pain and inflammation, improve motion and decrease muscle spasms. Conditions Ultrasound is used to treat include:
- Sprains and Strains
- Joint inflammation
- Plantar fasciitis
- Subacromial bursitis
SMART TOOLS SYSTEM
The Smart Tools System utilizes specifically designed, precise stainless steel tools that when pressed to the skin amplify abnormalities in the soft tissue, allowing the practitioner to feel more clearly differences in tissue structure. These tools are then used by the practitioner to manipulate the tissue and reduce pain. Both primary tissue injury and secondary tissue damage related to conditions such as arthritis can be treated. The Smart Tools System can assist in treating:
- Achilles Tendonitis
- Fibromyalgia
- Myofascial Pain Syndromes
- Tennis and Golf Elbow
- Shin Splints
- Rotator Cuff Tendonitis
PREHAB & REHAB
Prehabilitation and rehabilitation work to ensure patients facing surgery are in the optimum physical condition to recover quickly, whilst Rehab assists with the recovery of patients following diagnosis of a disease, major injury or surgery. A wide range of therapies and techniques are used in Prehab and Rehab, including Acupuncture, & Dry Needling, Ultrasound, Cold Laser Therapy and Orthotics.
