Mechanical Low Back Pain
Abnormal stressors on the joints and muscles surrounding the vertebral column within the lower back region can result in pain. It is this pain, caused by these mechanical stressors that we term mechanical lower back pain. It is typically the result of bad habits including poor posture both standing and seated, and incorrect lifting techniques.
Mechanical lower back pain generally presents with a history of immediate onset low back pain following lifting and/or twisting while holding a heavy object, prolonged sitting (e.g. bus and truck drivers, office workers and professionals), operating vibrating machinery or following direct trauma such as a motor vehicle accident or a fall.
