What is Dorsal Impaction Syndrome?

Repetitive extension (backward bending) of the wrist can cause compression of the dorsal (back) structures of the wrist. This can lead to a number of changes in the wrist including capsulitis and/or synovitis (inflammation between and surrounding the wrist joints). Dorsal impaction syndrome presents as pain over the dorsal (back) of the wrist following repeated forced wrist extension, commonly seen in gymnasts and weight lifters.
